1. WHO WE ARE & WHAT THIS PLATFORM DOES
Surf Camp International ("SCI", "we", "us", "our") is an independent digital directory, networking, media hosting, and introduction platform built for the global surf camp, eco-lodge, and water sports industry. Our platform allows:
• Crew / Candidates: To create, publish, and manage a digital profile showcasing their certifications, ISA credentials, photos, Loom videos, and work experience to global hosts.
• Camps / Employers / Hosts: To list seasonal vacancies, view candidate profiles, and receive direct applications. Sensitive contact details are disclosed only to verified host accounts or via tokenized candidate applications.
CRITICAL LEGAL NOTICE — INDEPENDENT DIRECTORY ONLY: Surf Camp International is strictly an introduction and digital hosting platform. We are NOT a recruitment agency, employment agency, labor broker, or employer. We do not recruit candidates on behalf of camps, we do not employ or pay crew members, we do not manage camp operations, and we do not supervise or guarantee any work, placement, compensation, or contract that follows an introduction made through this platform.
2. ACCOUNTS, ELIGIBILITY & SECURITY
To register an account or use our platform, you agree to the following eligibility requirements:
• Age Requirement: You must be at least 18 years of age to create an account.
• Accuracy: You agree to provide true, accurate, and current information during registration and keep your profile details updated.
• Account Security: You are solely responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials. You are responsible for all activities that occur under your account. Notify us immediately at info@surfcampinternational.com if you suspect unauthorized access.
• Non-Transferable: Accounts are restricted to one individual or registered business entity. Accounts may not be shared, sold, or transferred to another party.
3. CREW PROFILES, MEDIA HOSTING & PIN-PROTECTED ACCESS
When you publish a profile on SCI, you agree to the following data handling rules:
• Directory Display: Your public profile (bio, ISA levels, languages, photos, and Loom video links) will be displayed on the platform so host camps can evaluate your fit for seasonal roles.
• Contact Protection: Sensitive contact details (such as phone numbers, direct email addresses, or full identification documents) are protected and disclosed only to verified host accounts or via tokenized application views.
• Candidate Access PIN: Candidates may choose to lock their profile behind a custom Access PIN. You are solely responsible for managing who receives your PIN. SCI assumes no liability for unauthorized profile views resulting from candidate-shared PINs.
• Candidate Control & POPIA Rights: In compliance with South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and global privacy standards, you retain complete ownership over your data. You may hide, edit, or permanently delete your profile at any time directly from your account privacy dashboard.
4. MEMBERSHIPS, DIGITAL PRODUCTS & STRICT NO-REFUND POLICY
Access to candidate directory tools, video profile hosting, media infrastructure, and private network perks requires an active candidate membership:
• Membership Tiers: Candidates may choose a "Crew Seasonal" pass ($49 USD one-off payment for 6 months) or a "Crew Monthly" pass ($18 USD / month). Both tiers unlock the same crew package and features; only the billing interval differs.
• Included Membership Perks: Memberships grant immediate access to profile hosting, cloud media storage, credential lockers, directory tools, private community channels, weekly group calls, downloadable industry resources, and future 1-on-1 advisory sessions.
• Non-Recurring Seasonal Pass: The Crew Seasonal pass is a single one-off payment granting 6 months of access. It is NOT an auto-recurring subscription.
• Monthly Subscriptions: The Crew Monthly pass renews automatically every 30 days until canceled via your dashboard. You may cancel at any time to prevent future billing.
• Camp Access: Surf camps, hostels, eco-lodges, and charter hosts may create a host account free of charge, subject to SCI vetting and approval.
• STRICT NO-REFUND & NON-TRANSFERABLE POLICY: Because digital profile infrastructure, cloud storage, directory access, and community assets are delivered immediately upon payment, ALL MEMBERSHIP PAYMENTS ARE STRICTLY NON-REFUNDABLE and non-transferable to other users or future seasons, except where mandatory statutory consumer rights under local law dictate otherwise.
5. CAMP LISTINGS, APPLICATION CAPACITY & HOST RESPONSIBILITIES
Camps, hostels, eco-lodges, and charter hosts listing roles on SCI agree to the following standards:
• Host Accounts: Qualified hosts may post vacancies and review candidates free of charge, subject to SCI vetting and approval.
• Application Capacity (Default vs. Capped Batches): By default, job listings allow uncapped candidate applications. However, hosts reserve the right to request Capped Application Batches (e.g., maximum 10 applicants per release) to manage application volume. SCI reserves the right to toggle application limits on any listing to preserve platform quality.
• Authority & Accuracy: Hosts affirm that they have full authority to represent the listed business and that all details regarding role expectations, working hours, stipend/pay, accommodation, and location are described accurately and truthfully.
• Host Legal & Immigration Compliance: Hosts are solely and exclusively responsible for ensuring that all job listings, volunteer setups, and employment offers comply with local labor laws, minimum wage regulations, working visa rules, tax obligations, and health/safety codes in the country where work occurs. SCI assumes zero liability for host non-compliance.
• Host Indemnification: Host businesses agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Surf Camp International, its operators, and agents from any claims, fines, legal fees, or damages arising out of illegal, non-compliant, or fraudulent job listings posted by the host.
• No Candidate Placement Fees: Hosts are strictly prohibited from charging candidates any fee, deposit, or application charge to apply for or accept a job.
• Content Moderation: SCI reserves the right to review, edit, reject, or remove any job listing that fails to meet our internal platform standards or violates these terms.
6. DISCLAIMER OF EMPLOYMENT, PLATFORM REVIEWS & DUE DILIGENCE
Any agreement, contract, verbal placement, or payment made between a camp and a crew member is strictly a private transaction between those two parties.
• Internal Platform Reviews: SCI may run basic administrative checks on user listings or profiles to ensure compliance with site formatting and basic quality guidelines. These internal reviews do NOT constitute a legal verification, background check, visa audit, or guarantee of safety.
• No Warranties or Guarantees: SCI does not warrant or guarantee that any job listing is genuine, that an interview or offer will be extended, that a candidate is suitable or qualified, or that agreed wages/stipends will be paid.
• Mandatory Due Diligence: Both candidates and hosts are required to conduct their own independent due diligence before traveling or making hiring commitments. We strongly advise holding live video interviews, signing written agreements outlining duties/housing, and verifying working visa requirements independently.
7. ACCEPTABLE USE & PROHIBITED CONTENT
You agree to use SCI responsibly and refrain from the following prohibited activities:
• False Information: Posting fraudulent, misleading, offensive, discriminatory, sexually explicit, or unlawful content.
• Scraping & Data Harvesting: Using automated bots, web scrapers, or manual extraction to harvest candidate contact details, copy job listings, or resell directory access.
• Bypassing Controls: Attempting to bypass security mechanisms, paid access limits, or content moderation filters.
• Unsolicited Spam: Using host contact info or candidate profiles to market unrelated products, services, or commercial schemes.
8. REPORTING, MODERATION & ACCOUNT SUSPENSION
• Flagging System: Any user can flag a suspicious job listing, abusive camp, or fraudulent profile directly through the platform.
• Account Freezes: Flagged content may be temporarily hidden from public view while our moderation team investigates.
• Termination: SCI reserves the right to warn, restrict, suspend, or permanently terminate any account that breaches these terms without refund in cases of serious or repeated violations.
9. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY & MEDIA RIGHTS
• User Media Rights: You retain full ownership of all text, photos, video links, and media you upload to SCI. By uploading, you grant SCI a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, format, display, and share that content solely for the purpose of operating and promoting the platform.
• Image Consents: You confirm that you hold all necessary rights and permissions from any identifiable people appearing in your uploaded media.
• SCI Ownership: The site design, codebase, logos, graphics, compilation database, and branding remain the exclusive intellectual property of Surf Camp International.
10. LIABILITY, TRAVEL & ACTION SPORTS DISCLAIMER
Surfing, ocean coaching, water sports, and international travel carry inherent risks including injury, illness, travel disruption, and physical harm.
• Assumption of Risk: You voluntarily assume all risks associated with traveling to, staying at, or working for any surf camp discovered through SCI. You are solely responsible for securing your own medical insurance, travel insurance, ocean safety certifications, and valid passports/visas.
• Limitation of Liability: To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Surf Camp International, its founders, operators, and agents shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential loss, injury, claim, or damages arising out of your reliance on any listing, application, travel setup, or host conduct.
11. PRIVACY & POPIA COMPLIANCE
We process personal data strictly to run the platform, enable user account management, and facilitate introductions between candidates and camps.
• Infrastructure: We rely on secure third-party infrastructure (such as Supabase, Resend, and Paystack) for hosting, database management, email delivery, and payment processing.
• Privacy Policy: We never sell your personal data to third parties. For complete details on how we store and process data under POPIA, please review our separate Privacy Policy page.
12. GOVERNING LAW & JURISDICTION
• Updates: We may update these terms as platform capabilities expand. Continued use of SCI following posted updates constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms.
• Governing Jurisdiction: These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any disputes arising under these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the South African courts, unless mandatory consumer protection laws in your home jurisdiction mandate otherwise.
QUESTIONS OR NOTICES: For any questions regarding these terms, please contact us at info@surfcampinternational.com.
